Cambodia '08 Part 2

i'm back...

well the last update ended at day 2... so now lets get things rolling again shall we?

Day 3

we woke up at about 4am local time and had our breakfast by 6am... got our sleepy asses on the van and its off to Siem Reap! well its not easy to doze off during the trip... the highway was like only two lanes and bumpy as hell... i mean our crappiest roads in Penang beats their highway... oh yeah and did i mention Cambodians drive like total nuts? their roads arent two ways, not one way...... oh no... its ANYway... the road can go from two lanes to one and two again.... driving in Cambodia = Dangerous....

the best section of the highway.... and the widest.... =.=

they still travel like this...

have you ever seen that many people on a small truck? well this isnt the worst by their standards...

well everyone had to take a leak so we stopped at this so called rest stop.... there were a few people selling fried grasshoppers and spiders... they smell like "Bak Kua"... seriously...

that's rice...

and yes.... the grasshoppers and spiders.... yummy..... X.X

back on the road... we saw the farmer's houses and its sad to see them living in such poverty... their environment is filthy and that's the best they can do... well lunch was lousy.... we didnt really stuff ourselves during lunch because the driver told us right after this, even bumpier roads ahead... oh GOD!!

the food.... lousy...

it wasnt actually a road... its more like a path the people cleared for vehicles to enter.... it was bumpy, scary, and uncomfortable.... and it took us like an hour to look for the ancient temples...... on the way we saw villages with small houses.... those houses got no electricity and water.... we finally arrived and we met our temple site guide.... i forgot his name.... anyway he told us that the temples look like crap because it was destroyed by bombs during the war and some by natural causes.... temples built at that time were called Prasat... we started at Prasat Yeai Poeun... Yeai Poeun means "Grandmother Hide".... wtheck?? the whole area where all the ancient temples are is called Sambor Prei Kuk....

tour guide dude...

after we left the temple site we went back on the road... great... we stopped at an 800 year old bridge that is still in use but only accesible to people and two wheeled vehicles....

we finally arrived at Siem Reap around 5pm.... we checked into the Royal Empire Hotel.... i have to say, mum booked us the mother of all budget hotels.... it didnt look like a budget hotel at all.... ok maybe it isnt one but the rates are low... we took a little swim in the salt water pool.... yes the water was salty... we went for dinner at 6.30pm....

dinner was at Tonle Chaktomuk.... another buffet.... the place and the food was fantastic..!! after dinner we headed back to the hotel and got some sleep....

Cambodia '08 Part 1

here i go again... well on the 9th of December, my family and i went on vacation... destination : Cambodia...

on the plane..

our plane was next to this one..

airplane food.... =.=

well we decided to trust Air Asia in getting us to the capital city of Cambodia, Phnom Penh... we got delayed at KLIA for about an hour.. we arrived in Phnom Penh at about 5.10pm local time... in case you didnt know, Cambodia is an hour behind Malaysia... got stuck in traffic and it took awhile to reach this restaurant called Khmer Surin... (Khmer = Cambodian language or people) the food was pretty awesome... it was the first time i tasted the famous Cambodian dish, the AMOK Chicken... lol...

view of Cambodia from the plane..

Khmer Surin..

well there wasnt much to see outside the hotel so we had an early rest... and by the way, the hotel name was Mittapheap Hotel... complicated no?

Day 2

woke up pretty late.. not a good way to start your vacation.. had breakfast at the hotel.. the bus took us to Wat Phnom.. it the first temple in the capital city and also where the city started.. we then headed to the Imperial Palace where the King of Cambodia still resides.. the design is similar to the Royal Palace in Bangkok..

Wat Phnom..

Imperial Palace..

there was this Silver Pagoda within the palace grounds and the first thing that went through my mind was a Pagoda made of silver.... well, its not really that.. its actually a place where the King and other people worship the Emerald Buddha (again similar to Bangkok)... the floor, however, has silver tiles weighing 1kg each.. they dont allow photography inside the Pagoda but i managed to snap some under my arms..

National Artifact Museum was the next stop.. the museum displays many statues and artifacts from the Pre-Angkor, Angkor, and Post-Angkor period.. there were LOADS.. but you cant take pictures without official permission... dumb people..

museum..... and dad...

Garuda.... i call it the BirdMan...

Barisan National's secret base?

lunch was at Tonle Bassac.. its a buffet of local food... not bad but could be better.. we stopped by a souvenir shop after lunch... Pailin Souvenirs... Pailin, my favourite Amazing Race Asia contestant, isnt the owner and thank god for that... the shop sucked.. haha..

Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum, our next location, was one that i never want to visit again... it was a prison during the war in Cambodia and before becoming a prison, it used to be a school... the cruelty of mankind sent chills up my spine and made me thank god i live in the 21st century...

illustrations shows how children were killed....

children imprisoned during the communist regime...

after that enlightening visit, we headed to the Russian Market.. its called a Russian Market because it used to be where the Russians stay during the communist regime... shopping was obviously the thing there..

dinner sucked big time... King Suki Soup = steamboat... heck my family makes better steamboats... dumbass restaurant..

that's all for the first two days...

Day 3 updates
coming soon...

A Series of Unfortunate Events.....

well here i am starting all over again after my Facebook, Friendster, Windows Live, Msn, and blog passwords were changed and my Facebook vanishing from my friends contacts..

i dont like what has happened... but now i'm on to a fresh start.. if i find the person responsible for these events, the price will be heavy..

anyway the updates on my holiday in Cambodia will restart here... i guess that's all i can blog about so far in my new blog....

WELCOME..!!

and please relink me you people..

that's all for now..
