A Week in the Motherland : Day 1

Ok so I'm not exactly from China but I am Chinese am I not?

There's not much from Day 1 because I spent most of the day on planes and buses and waiting in the airport.. I shall try to keep this post to the minimum..

So my day actually started out very early.. After the campfire at Penang Free School the night before, I reached home at about 12am.. After all my packing it was about 2am and I had to be up by 4am so I decided not to sleep.. We were to be at the airport by 6am.. Met up with the rest of the tour group and at 8am, we left Penang for Guangzhou or Canton as some people call it..

It was a 3-4 hour flight to Guangzhou on a China Southern Airlines Boeing-737 plane.. Yup we took China Southern Airlines.. Till that day I didnt even know such an airline existed.. LOL

It took me an entire flight and a few hours in the Guangzhou airport to realize that I FORGOT TO PACK MY CONTACT LENSES.!! So yes I had to bear the whole trip wearing glasses.. We had lunch at some Chinese restaurant (DUH) at the airport before our flight to Xi'an and it was my first taste of real Chinese food since my trip to Shanghai in 2002..

When we arrived in Xi'an I was told it isnt exactly Xi'an.. Confusing isnt it? It was 7.30pm and we actually had to take an hour long bus ride to Xi'an.. That bus was to be our bus for the week.. We had dinner at some nice place and the food was not bad at all..

After dinner we all checked in to the hotel and that was Day 1 for your information..

I did get to see the monuments and lights and TRAFFIC during my time on the bus..

Traffic in China is the same if not worse than in Cambodia.. I said before that in Cambodia there is no one way or two ways on the road.. Its any way.. Yup sop it was the same for China.. only this time it involves buses, cars, trucks, motorbikes, bicycles, 3-wheeled cars and people.. If it doesnt sound scary, wait till you get yourself on a motorized trishaw while hanging on to dear life weaving in and out of the busy streets..

Anyway that should be all for Day 1.. I will try to get the pictures up as soon as possible so keep on checking.. =)

Till then...
Day 2 - Coming Soon...
